Time Out interview with Enrique about playing in Dubai.

 2012_enrique_2

Enrique Iglesias is all set to perform at the Dubai World Trade Centre on October 26, as part of his continuing world tour and the city is excited.
The news has softened the blow of him not joining Jennifer Lopez when the latter announced her first UAE concert, happening on November 22 at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.
The two singers have been touring together throughout the year. Having already wrapped up South America and Canada, they are currently making their way through North America. Iglesias, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, can of course hold his own on stage and he’s sure to break a few hearts onstage on the night. He is touring on the back of his successful ninth album Euphoria, with songs sung in both Spanish and English and featuring various artists including Akon, Usher and Juan Luis Guerra.
Hi Enrique. Are you looking forward to playing Dubai? What do you make of the city?
I love Dubai because it has an endless supply of beauty and culture. I really like the architecture of the Emirates Towers, and you’ve got some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen, so I’m always happy to return. Not to mention the extremely devoted fans. My UAE fans are some of the most interactive ones on my website, and are the most enthusiastic during concerts. So I’m very happy to finally be returning after what’s been quite a few years.
We’re hearing more house and R&B in your music these days. Have you abandoned your Spanish roots?
I would never forget about my Spanish roots. About half the songs I write are in Spanish. My last album, Euphoria, in fact, was a complete 50/50 mix of Spanish and English. And as for the new album I’m working on, although there is no song list set, I promise there are some great Spanish tunes that will be on there.
Okay, fair enough. But you have been working with Pitbull recently, seems like an odd pairing?
It was an amazing experience working with him. Pitbull has been a great friend over the past few years and I‘ve had a blast not only writing music with him, but touring all over the world as well.
We loved you in Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Two And A Half Men, any plans for more acting?
I can’t say it hasn’t come across my mind, but I’d prefer to just keep doing small cameos. I had a blast filming those shows and it was an honour working alongside Antonio Banderas and Charlie Sheen. They are legends! There are no plans set in stone, but I hope to work on some projects in the years to come.
There was talk of you being a judge on American Idol, what happened?
It just wasn’t the right time for that.
You told our colleagues over at Time Out London a few years back that you plan to retire at 40. Is this still the plan?
Music is my passion. I would prefer to tour for the rest of my life. No matter what I end up doing though, I can promise you that it will involve music in some way.
What’s the weirdest thing you have on your rider?
To be honest, I have nothing weird on my rider. I’m serious! I’m a very simple guy. All I ask is for some water, sodas, and my favourite beverage for my pre-show ritual. I think my worst habit is that I work too much. My manager always tells me that, but I can’t help it if I’m loving what I do.
What’s the best thing about being an international pop star?
The best part is waking up every day and doing exactly what I love to do. My work is my passion, and my passion is my work. And on top of that, I get to travel all around the world, see all kinds of cool places, and meet lots of great people.
And what’s the worst thing?
Being away from my crazy dogs while on tour. I miss them!
Enrique performs at Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday October 26, doors 7pm, show 10pm.

Enrique Excited to be back in Dubai.

Enrique Iglesias is happy to return to Dubai

Fact: Heartthrob Enrique Iglesias has never been stalked by a crazed fan. Sounds almost as far fetched as saying his long-term girl Anna Kournikova has no sex appeal.
But according to the Spanish singer it’s the truth.
“I’ve seen fans jump on my car,” he said contemplating the actions of his seriously dedicated fans. “I’ve seen fans hop over very high fences and I often get people throwing articles of clothing on stage. You name it, I’ve seen it,” he added. “But I don’t think I’ve ever really been stalked. “The mail is another story though,” he reveals without elaborating.
Elaborating is something Enrique isn’t so hot at.
Unable to pick up the phone, even in an email chat, Iglesias isn’t the most forthcoming, which could explain his private life which has surprisingly, given his popularity, remained relatively private.
Former tennis ace Kournikova and Iglesias have always managed to remain relatively low-drama in terms of the ‘celebrity couple’.

Confusion was caused however after he referred to the blonde bombshell as his wife on stage at a concert in Russia last year. “It was just meant to be sweet in the moment. I honestly didn’t mean to confuse people. I thought it’d be easier for the audience to understand than if I said “my girl”.
“But wouldn’t the lovely Anna like to be Mrs Iglesias one day,” we asked. “I’m not sure, I’d have to ask her first before answering that,” he quipped sarcastically.
You can’t help but wonder why marriage and babies aren’t catapulted to the forefront of his mind. “I have no current family plans,” he insists before throwing us an exclusive hot potato adding “But who knows!”
Surely that signals there’s something on the cards?
“Love is just such a big part of everyone’s lives,” said Iglesias. “And sometimes it’s just what inspires me.”
Kournikova and Iglesias first met when the music star hand-picked her, then 20, to play his love interest in his incredibly steamy 2001 music video for Escape. However the singer says he won’t be exchanging rings any time soon, if ever, despite their 11-year relationship.
The 36-year-old Latin singer recently told an American magazine “I’ve never really thought marriage would make a difference. Maybe it’s because I come from divorced parents, but I don’t think you love someone more because of a piece of paper. And nowadays, it’s not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you’re a good parent, period.”
The youngest son of acclaimed Spanish singer Julio Iglesias and his Filipina wife, Isabel Preysler, a model-turned-journalist, within five years of beginning his musical career in the 1990s, he was the biggest selling singer of Spanish-language albums of the decade.
Having lived in Miami since the age of seven, Iglesias says “home will always be here” but says he likes to travel.
“I love Dubai because it’s has an endless supply of beauty and culture,” he said. “With the astonishing architecture of the Emirates Towers, and some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen, I’m always happy to return. Not to mention the extremely devoted fans.”
Finally starting to slowly find a voice, Iglesias was passionate when it came to talk of his Dubai show on Friday at the city’s World Trade Centre. “My Dubai fans are some of the most interactive ones on my website and are the most enthusiastic during concerts. I am very happy to finally return as it’s been quite a few years. Fans can expect a fun evening full of hits both old and new. I also have a brand new production which I feel everyone will enjoy.”
But that was all he was giving away, scurrying back into his shell. “That’s all I can give as hints,” he said trying to be playful but not quite pulling it off. “You’ll have to come to the show and see for yourself.”
Iglesias, who performed in 2004 at Dubai Media City and at a private party in 2008 in Dubai, has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time
Admitting his impulsive tendencies (“I can definitely be at times”), Iglesias made headlines when he snapped up a private jet before he even had his pilot’s licence. Worth it though, as rumour has it the star will be flying himself to the UAE this weekend in his own vehicle.
Private planes, fancy cars, famous girls, a recent tour with superstar JLo and you’d think the fame game would have gone to his head.
His personal demands at shows say otherwise. “To be honest, I have nothing weird on my rider,” he said. “I’m serious,” came next as if he’d pre-empted the rolling of eyes. “I’m a very simple guy. All I ask is for some water, sodas, and my Atlantico rum for my pre-show ‘shot’ ritual.”
So is there anything wrong with this seemingly perfect human being?
“I think my worst habit is that I work too much. My manager always tells me that, but I can’t help loving what I do.”
We’ll let you off, Enrique.

Don’t miss it

Enrique choosing his own wardrobe for the ladies!

New article from 7Days on Enrique playing in Dubai.

Enrique faces a costume drama - Superstition plays a part in singer’s wardrobe

Female fans will be dressing up in their finest to try and catch the attention of Enrique Iglesias at his Dubai World Trade Centre show on Friday.
While the girls will be glamming up, the Spaniard will have chosen his own wardrobe carefully.
The Latin heartthrob’s show is being billed as the biggest indoor concert ever staged in the Middle East, and in a recent interview on Virgin Radio Dubai’s The Kris Fade Show, the 37-year-old let listeners in on a little secret - he’s superstitious when it comes to his shows.
  1. Enrique Iglesias faces a costume drama - Superstition plays a part in singer’s wardrobe
Female fans will be dressing up in their finest to try and catch the attention of Enrique Iglesias at his Dubai World Trade Centre show on Friday.
He explained: “I have my lucky boots which I wear onstage. I do get very superstitious in this kind of way. If I have a good show then immediately I think to myself ‘oh, I’ve got to keep wearing the same things that I was wearing for that show’.
Also, whatever routine we had backstage, I then try to do exactly the same too if it was a good show.”
The ‘Finally Found You’ singer has already played the UAE twice, taking Dubai Media City by storm in 2004 and also playing a private party in 2008.
He believes music fans are in for the best show yet as he promises a mix of the old and the new.
“You know what, my setlist has changed so much through the years,” he said. “From songs like ‘Hero’ to ‘I Like It’ or ‘Bailamos’, it makes things more diverse than ever really. And in the past three to four years I’ve been having more fun than ever onstage.”
The son of ‘To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before’ crooner Julio Iglesias, Enrique also has Filipino roots thanks to his journalist mother Isabel Preysler.
Throw in some award-winning tunes and you’ve got a pop star with global appeal. But despite the constant attention, he’s one star who is happy to meet his fans.
“They are what makes it worth it. You might be having a bad day and then you get to meet one of your fans, and you think ‘what was I complaining about?’ I’ve got the best fans in the world.”

Not long to go now until Enrique finnaly finds all his lovely fans in Dubai!

Kris Fade chats with Enrique.

The recent interview with Kris fade from Virgin Radio Dubai.

Enrique Iglesias, one of the best-selling Spanish artists of all time, is headed to our shores, Ahlan! columnist Kris Fade from Virgin Radio Dubai chatted to him before his gig at Dubai World Trade Centre next Friday, 26 October. After introducing to his biggest fan Tamara, who started crying and screaming 'I love you so much', Kris managed to get a few questions in.
Does this happen to you all the time?
It happens, but that's what makes it worth it. If you're having a bad day and you're complaining and suddenly you get to meet a fan like Tamara, it's like 'What am I complaining about?' I have the best fans in the world.
Is it true you have a pair of lucky boots?
I do have my lucky boots that I wear on stage. I'm very superstitious when it comes down to those things in a very stupid way. Like if I had a good show and I'm wearing something, I'm like ' I've got to keep on wearing this', and I do exactly the same thing backstage.
What can we expect from your show?
The cool thing is that my set list had changed so much over the year. We're going from songs like Hero to songs like I Like It or Tonight, it's just so diverse musically which makes me have a lot of fun on stage. I feel more confident in the last four years, I've been having a lot more fun on stage and I think that reflects.
We're got a large Filipino audience in Dubai. Is it true you've got some Filipino within you?
Of course I do, I'm part Filipino. My mum is half Filipino. I know there's a lot of Filipino people in Dubai, that's the first thing I noticed the first time I went to Dubai.

Enrique concentrating on his music career

Enrique has recently turned down a spot as a judge on the hugely popular American Idol show. Why? He reveals all here.
Enrique Iglesias said no to an American Idol hosting job because he wanted to concentrate on his music career.
And the Spanish heartthrob is doing just that - releasing a teaser for the upcoming music video to accompany his new single Finally Found You.
In the 37-second clip, Enrique is seen showing his stuff in a tight grey T-shirt and flashing back to when he was an adolescent boy.

Finally, a video peek! Enrique Iglesias released a new clip to his upcoming music video for his single Finally Found You
Finally, a video peek! Enrique Iglesias released a new clip to his upcoming music video for his single Finally Found You.

The clip also features him jetting down a night time freeway in a sports car and then standing in a crowded disco while staring at a mysterious blonde dressed all in black. She's watching him over her shoulder watching her and next thing you know they're making out against a wall.
Flash forward to the bedroom where Enrique and the blonde heat up some more. The blonde gets up and all you see are her bare legs kicking the sheets away.

All this while his body-shaking single, Finally Found You, is playing.

The new single from the upcoming album Reloaded - Enrique's 10th studio effort - is definitely a hit with his fans.
Enrique, 37, came close to becoming the fourth judge on American idol this season, but negotiations fell through last month.
American Idol brought back host Randy Jackson to sit in the judge's chair.

The singer said recently that he didn't turn down the gig because he hates the show, in fact he likes it a lot.
'I actually love the show … it's a great show,' Enrique said.
Obviously, Enrique just loves his music more and it's easy to see why.

Enrique speaking about his album Euphoria.

Enrique Iglesias is, in 2011, more on top of his game than ever. The superstar solo artist’s most recent album, Euphoria, has moved some 3.5 million copies and counting, and singles like “I Like It” and “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” remain ubiquitous on pop radio. But still Iglesias, on a recent rare moment at home in Miami, seems almost misty-eyed for a part of the music industry now virtually extinct. “I used to be one of those guys who went to the record store weekly.… I would buy albums constantly and just read the credits. I found that I haven’t done that in quite some time. It’s sad,” he says, “because I think the album era is practically over.”

That may be true, but Iglesias is sending it out with a bang. Euphoria is the album so dear to his heart, he released it twice. This November, a new, updated version hits the shelves and the Web, thickened with a handful of new songs. “It’s your baby,” he says of what it feels like to put out an album, but this most recent one in particular. “You want to make it as good as possible and last as long as possible.”
Luckily, Iglesias is the kind of mega-selling artist, rare in the industry these days, for which this kind of thing still works. His 1995 self-titled debut album has sold some 8 million copies worldwide to date, and the following eight records have had similar success.
His pedigree may have something to do with it; that famous surname is courtesy of his father, legendary Spanish crooner Julio. His mother, the Filipina journalist and television presenter Isabel Preysler, comes from a tradition of style and entertainment as well. Iglesias, though, has refused to coast on any family reputation. Instead, he’s taken this early multicultural mix and combined it with a childhood spent in Miami—he’s a Gulliver Prep alum—for a particularly global pop sensibility. Until last year, Iglesias’ recorded output reflected a neat split between Spanish and English-language material, garnering an exponentially larger fan base whose outer edges didn’t necessarily overlap.
With Euphoria, however, the common area of that Venn diagram started to expand. It was his first effort to feature both English and Spanish material on the same recording, with each comprising about half. With the number of bilingual Latinos increasing not only in the United States but worldwide, this seems like a sharp bit of marketing.
It’s a natural evolution of Iglesias’ upbringing and output to date. “I’ve always wanted to make an album where I had both English and Spanish. It really helped creatively because whenever I got stuck in English I’d move on to Spanish, and vice versa,” he says. “It just made it more interesting, and made it more fun, because making an album can be grueling at times, especially if you really, really care.”
By his own account, the grueling part of the process is largely self-inflicted—one that results in stringent standards for every individual track. While many pop stars claim to be song-driven, Iglesias truly is—his material can span, in a single disc, romantic ballads to dance-floor bangers. The only common thread is an unceasingly impassioned delivery and a somewhat intangible but marked sense of drama.

Enrique speaks about his love for music.

“I don’t care, really, what particular style they might be or what type of beat, or even the BPM [beats per minute] of the song. I’m a firm believer that you go with whatever feels best,” he says. “Does it make you want to go out there, and when you listen to it, do you think immediately, I wish everyone could hear this track right now? Or, Am I willing to kill for this song? Can you listen to it 100 times and not get sick of it?”
Beyond selecting songs for the final cut, however, Iglesias has a knack for knowing the global pop scene and picking out influential and of the moment guest stars to grace those tracks. Euphoria features a pitch-perfect cast of collaborators. On the Spanish-language tracks, there is urban swagger courtesy of reggaetoneros Wisin y Yandel, and soulful crooning from the king of tropical beats, Dominican icon Juan Luis Guerra. Meanwhile, the English-language side features the likes of Nicole Scherzinger (of Pussycat Dolls fame), Usher, Akon and the other reigning bilingual Miami-boy-made-good, Pitbull.
Iglesias helped pave the way for an artist like Pitbull, who liberally applies Spanglish to a mounting number of international megahits. After all, one of the former’s first big “English-language” hits in the US, 1999’s “Bailamos,” featured a title and hook in Spanish. Iglesias demurs on his influence there, though. “I think Pitbull helped pave the way for Pitbull,” he says.
And if all these seemingly strategic moves, from melodies to musical partners-in-crime, have made him into a one-man business juggernaut, well, he insists it goes back to that teenage kid buying albums—the gut reactions of a music fan. Though he’s appeared in commercials for Pepsi and Doritos and dabbled in acting, you won’t hear Iglesias spew a lot of marketing speak about brand partnerships or new music industry models.
“I think I’m a music fan first, and then, thanks to me being a music fan, it becomes a business. I grew up with MTV, listening to the radio and buying records, analyzing the songs,” he says. “I approach my business based on music. In other words, I know that if I don’t have a song that people respond to and gravitate toward, the business is not going to matter, because the business is not going to be there.”
As important to the teenage memories of buying records is Miami. Although Iglesias was born in Madrid, he’s lived in multicultural South Florida since he was 10, and has never really left. “I’ve lived in LA, but I always come back to Miami,” he says. “Around the world, everyone has this image of Miami that’s South Beach and partying and whatever. But there’s that other side of Miami that’s very tranquil, where you can get away and have your privacy and not really bump into anyone.”
Not that there’s a lot of time for that. If Iglesias doesn’t like to put too fine a point on his musical or empire-building decisions, he’s the first to admit some workaholic tendencies. The remainder of the year and beyond sees him touring the United States and then the rest of the world, and maybe even dabbling in other forms of entertainment. Iglesias has already put his good looks and charisma to movie-star effect in a few acting roles, from the feature film Once Upon a Time in Mexico to TV hits like Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother. Still, it’s clear he’ll always come back to the passion that sparked so young. “I do love film, and the little things I’ve done, I enjoy them a lot,” he says, “but it’s really hard to leave behind the thing you love.”
It just goes to show that Enrique really does have as much passion for his music as his fans. This is why he is one of the modern greats of the music industry.

Enrique chats about his holiday experiences.

Enrique Iglesias's heaven and hell

Enrique Iglesias talks about skiing in Breckenridge, food poisoning in Monaco and how he avoids flying on ageing aeroplanes.

Enrique Iglesias's heaven and hell

Travel is a huge part of my life, and I've been pretty much to every country. A holiday for me is staying at home and having my own things around me, so I don't love holidays as such. I had a great holiday in Taiwan a few years ago; and I love skiing, and have had great holidays in Breckenridge. A day in the crisp snow, blue skies and the sun is pretty hard to beat. But when I think of my best holiday ever, it has to be the holidays we had in Madrid when I was young. I was born in Madrid and then moved to Miami, so going back to Madrid, staying at my mother's house and catching up with friends and family, was great fun, particularly at Christmas. No matter where I go in the world, those times stand out as being magical.

Enrique Iglesias's heaven and hell

Enrique says he'd love to travel to Vietnam and Cambodia one day also.

I quite like hotels, but travelling as much as I do, it's difficult for one to stand out from another. However, a few years ago I was working and had two days off and stayed in the Four Seasons resort in Jimbaran Bay in Bali. It doesn't stand out because it was so fantastic or anything – although the rooms were beautiful – but I remember it because it wasn't busy at that time and it felt like I had the place to myself. Another was a hotel I stayed at in Cape Town – I remember nothing about the hotel itself, but the views of Table Mountain from the window were spectacular.

Enrique Iglesias is a Bollywood music fan.

Pop idol Enrique Iglesias will be performing live in Pune, Gurgaon and Bangalore on the 17th, 19th and 21st of this month. The Hero singer, who will perform in the country for the second time, talks about his plans for the tour, acting and what makes him so dishy to the ladies. Excerpts from an interview:

What’s in store for your fans in the upcoming tour?
I am very excited about Micromax Enrique Iglesias tour. Fans can definitely expect a lot of surprises and some great new productions. I can’t give away more than that. You’ll just have to come and see for yourself.
You’ve collaborated with singer Sunidhi Chauhan in the past. Will you be collaborating with Indian artists during this tour?
I’m open to work with many artists. Any suggestions from you or the fans?

You’ll be in India for a few days. Is there some place you’d really like to visit, or any souvenirs to take back?

I won’t really have any time for sightseeing. The only “souvenir” I care about is just knowing that the show went great and everyone was happy.
You declined an offer to judge the reality TV show American Idol...
If the time was right, I would definitely have been honoured. I am a big fan of the show.
Your thoughts on Bollywood music?
I have heard many, and seen many videos, and am a fan for sure.
What do you think makes you such a hit, especially with women?
I have no clue! Perhaps you can tell me.
You’ve had a short acting stint in movies and TV shows. Will we see you take up acting seriously?
I am always open to opportunities. Acting is a talent that I respect very much, and am envious of those who have it in them. I would definitely be open to give it a shot.
Let’s talk about your last album...
Euphoria was an amazing run for me. The world tour was “epic” in a sense for me, and I hope my fans enjoyed the shows as much as I did. I was also fortunate enough to collaborate with some amazing artists like Pitbull, Juan Luis Guerra, Wisin and Yandel, Nicole Scherzinger, Lil Wayne, Lionel Ritchie, and others. It was a truly incredible experience.

He's so popular he even has a hairstyle based on him!

Enrique Iglesias is genuinely a Spanish language singer/songwriter ( born in Madrid 1975). Child of the Spanish language singer Julio Iglesias & Isabel Preysler, the sunday paper journalist. He began his job off singing in the Spanish language & grew to turn into possibly the most revered amid all non-English singing performers. He later began carrying out English tunes & grew to be a lot  more of a key main stream artist having a heavy Latin impact.

Enrique credits his nanny for his break!

Enrique Iglesias owes his childhood nanny for his big break, quite literally - she loaned him $1,800 to record his first single.

The Spanish pop hunk was desperate for cash to launch his career and turned to the woman who had acted as his mom while his famous father Julio Iglesias was touring the world for help.

He recalls, "When it came time for me to do a demo, I was 16, 17 - I didn't have $1,800, so I asked her and she was nice enough to give it to me."

The "Hero" hitmaker reveals he has more than paid the nanny back for her generosity, adding, "She took care of me for the first 25 years of my life and now I take care of her."

is there no end to Enrique's appeal? Not only does he melt our hearts with his amazing music but he looks after and genuinely cares about those around him. It makes it all the more real when he thanks his fans for their support as you know he really means it!

A recent interview with Enrique.

Do you know what it feels like to walk into a club and have people fall all over themselves just to be near you? Enrique Iglesias does. The tall, dark and very handsome Enrique, dressed comfortably in jeans and an Adidas baseball cap, welcomed such a scene at the CD release party of Euphoria held in Los Angeles.

The multi-platinum superstar, with chart-topping hits “Hero,” “Rhythm Divine,” “Bailamos,” “Do You Know?”… and 21 #1 tracks on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart, released his 9th album Euphoria, a diverse compilation of tracks featuring collaborations with Akon, Usher, Nicole Scherzinger, Pitbull and more. “I feel really satisfied with it. I think it’s the most eclectic album in my career. I’m not saying it’s the best, obviously that’s up to the fans to decide, but it’s definitely the most exciting album,” said Enrique.

His teaming up with different artists has made Euphoria an album that appeals to assorted tastes; perhaps expanding his fan base further—if that’s even possible (he has sold over 58 million albums worldwide). “I think the collaborations are cool... They’re artists from such different musical backgrounds and being able to mix all of them in one album has been fun and different. Every song, musically, is completely different from one another. A lot of the collaborations depended on the song. I kind of go more based on the song than really who it would be cool to collaborate with…, that’s kind of how it happened on this album.”

Euphoria is unique because this is Enrique’s first bilingual album --mixing English and Spanish. “I wanted to do this many years ago, but I don’t think the record companies were ready for it. Now, I’m with a different label: Universal Spanish and Universal Republic…and I thought it was the right time,” Enrique explained.

Enrique’s first released track on Euphoria, “I Like It,” featuring Pitbull and Lionel Richie, is his latest billboard chart-topper (at press time it was #5 on the Hot 100). The attention-garnering music video, which debuted at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, also featured MTV’s notorious Jersey Shore cast. “It was one of things that was, uh, different,” said Enrique about filming with the JS crew. “But I gotta tell you, the guys and the girls were a pleasure to work with. I say this is because, obviously, when we watch these reality shows you see the drama, the fighting and you think you’re going to see this in real-life, but the guys were great… They were down-to-earth, which is good to see. They know perfectly well where they stand. It must not be easy to go from being someone who’s not known to suddenly being extremely popular or famous. I think they handle it very well.” Lyrics from Lionel Richie’s hit “All Night Long” are also featured in the catchy song. “I worked with Lionel in the past, and he came by the studio and laid vocals on that.”

As for working with Pitbull, “Pitbull and I grew up in the same town. We have a bunch of friends in common and his energy is off the roof. He’s like a freakin’ Energizer Bunny. He doesn’t stop,” said Enrique. Their hometown is what Enrique credits for being the most influential in his career.

“Growing up in Miami, it was so diverse musically, because you have so much Latin influence and you also have the Anglo influence obviously. I always say that if I hadn’t grown up in Miami my music would be completely different. I don’t mean that for the better or the worst, I really don’t know. But I guarantee you it would be completely different because Madrid is different when it comes to music. I think about that a lot, believe it or not… it was tough for me to move to Miami because my parents were divorced. My mom stayed in Spain with my sister and it was a whole—it was a new culture, new climate, new friends. It took me a lot of time. It took me about a year to adjust. It was difficult, but once I adjusted I loved it. Now, I think about it and am like well, things happen for a reason because if I didn’t live here I don’t think I’d be able to sing in English or even have the influence that I have in my Spanish music,” Enrique expressed thoughtfully.

Being that music plays such a significant part in Enrique’s life, he makes sure to pick up the latest Apple products to stay connected. Enrique was excited to share that he recently purchased the new iPhone for his music needs. “I like the way that you can get music online so easily. That’s the main reason why I got it,” said Enrique about the iPhone. “With the iPhone you can buy music right there, so if I hear anything I like I can use Shazam --where you play the song and it tells you who is singing it and the name of the song.”

As for his trustee iPod, “I have 14,000 songs on my iPod. It’s too much. I’m going nuts going through it. I gotta start skimming it down,” said Enrique with a laugh. What artists will you find Enrique listening to? “The last song I bought was, ummm, let me see, was “Cooler than Me” [Mike Posner] … I got anything from Juan Luis Guerra, Lionel Richie, to Kings of Leon, Hombres G. I can name you a lot of people you wouldn’t know,” Enrique stated.

When Enrique has some downtime, it’s unlikely that you’ll find him gallivanting around town, this laidback guy prefers relaxing at home or going to the movies. “When I’m in Miami (where he resides), the couch is my favorite place --whenever I come home it’s usually from a long trip for work and I like staying home. But, I loooove being able to get away, like on the boat, going water skiing. Having a day off is great if you like the water.” When the sexy superstar is relaxing on his couch, what’s on TV? During the time of this interview, he robustly shared that “It’s all about the World Cup!” When I asked what team he was rooting for, straight-faced he replied, “I’m rooting for Jamaica.” Unfortunately, I had not been following the World Cup and made the mistake of responding with, “Ok, very cool.” Appalled with my reaction to his answer, Enrique busted out laughing. “Jamaica is not even playing! That shows me how much you watch the World Cup,” he exclaimed. Ooops. In my defense, I never claimed to be a soccer enthusiast. He’s the fan. Following my tiny gaffe, Enrique playfully shared that he was rooting for Spain, making sure to add, “And, they are in the World Cup, by the way.” There are worse things than getting teased by Enrique Iglesias.

He also divulged the two he cannot live without—his dogs: a Golden Retriever named Grammy and German Shepherd named Lucas. Inside Euphoria’s CD case you’ll find Enrique’s album dedication to Grammy (who sadly passed away recently) and a photo of the two together on the beach.

And of course, there is another special someone in Enrique’s life. Sorry ladies –yes, he is still dating beautiful, blond, ex-tennis player, Anna Kournikova. “All is cool. Everything is good,” Enrique said of their relationship.
